Beautiful Tapestry

If you ever have the privilege of going to Rome and visiting the many ancient Catholic churches, you will often see incredibly beautiful tapestries hanging from the walls.  Usually, these tapestries depict some scene from Scripture. These amazing tapestries were painstakingly made by hand with countless strands of thread. When they are all woven together, they create magnificent works of art that uplift and inspire. Ironically, if you turn one over and look at the back, what you see doesn’t resemble anything like the beautiful front. Often, it looks like a hodgepodge of threads that is actually quite ugly.

I think tapestries resemble our lives. God takes all the events of our lives, the good and the bad, and weaves them together into a beautiful tapestry. If each event were taken individually it might seem insignificant, just like the individual threads of a tapestry. And, if you were to focus on all the bad or difficult events in your life, you will fail to see all the beauty that makes up you and your life story–much like the back side of a tapestry.

So, if you find yourself regretting that your life hasn’t turned out as “perfect” as you planned, don’t lose hope! God is using everything that has happened to you to weave a beautiful tapestry that He proudly hangs on His wall to admire always.

Not only that, but we even boast of our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope, and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the holy Spirit that has been given to us. – Romans 5:3-5
