I would turn off all the lights in my room and marvel at the image that glowed from that toy. I think our lives those first few years after divorce are like a Lite Brite.

When we go through a divorce, we often have to endure a steady steam of criticism and negativity, usually from the person we loved the most. It is as if an eraser has been used on our character and everything good that we have done has been wiped away. Too often, this causes us to doubt our abilities, our lovability, and even our overall self-worth.

It is so important to remember that God sees you as one of his masterpieces. To God, you are precious and good–always. No one’s negative opinions or criticisms will ever change that. Claim this truth by focusing each day on the positive things you accomplish. It can be as little as making your child laugh, or as big as mustering the courage to buy a house on your own. Each accomplishment is like pressing a colored peg into the Lite Brite of your life. With each peg, you are revealing to yourself, and to the world, the true picture of who you are: made by God, precious and good. Let your light shine!

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. – 1 Peter 2:9
