Living in the Truth

With the season of Lent upon us, I find myself looking to Jesus as He suffered such a violent death for love of us. He has so much to teach us, especially about truth. Let’s consider the eleventh station; Jesus is nailed to the Cross. We may find it difficult to relate to Him and wonder just how He can relate to us, especially during our divorce. The truth is, He knows. He can relate to the way that lies and deception can destroy our lives. Let’s meditate on this station and ask of Jesus the grace and courage to be transparent in our lives; to live as He does, in Truth.

Eleventh Station: Jesus is Nailed to the Cross

Meditation: Christ, you lived in the truth and were nailed to a cross because of it. The crowd preferred to live in darkness surrounded by lies and fueled by hatred. I am so tired of living in darkness. I’m tired of all of the lies and hatred that swirl around me as I see my marriage fall apart. I am going to nail every lie to your cross and plead for the grace to live in the truth. I will no longer accept lies and deception in my life. You are the Way, the Truth and the Life, Jesus. Give me the courage that it takes to live an authentic life as you did.

Be the source of my strength, that in you I will have strength for everything.

Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. – 2Corinthians 4:2

  1. This so helpful, so true. The betrayal is so deep and ongoing
so painful. Only this kind of prayer can help and this meditation bring peace. The grace to reject lies, hatred and vengeance is a great gift God will give us if we ask and stay with meditation and prayer and trust in following His Ways in the sorrowful passage to divorce. He will guide us from darkness to the light of His love.

  2. I really like the thought that Christ can relate to the pain and rejection I feel from this unwanted divorce because He too was crucified due to the lies, hatred, and manipulation of others. Unlike me however, He was faultless and deserved none of the pain, cruelty, and hatred He received. Yet He loved His enemies in turn and wished nothing but the best for them as He asked for their forgiveness from His Father with His dying breath. That is such a powerful picture for me, as I too need to forgive and let go and commend my spouse to the Father’s mercy while trying to heal in my own life. I know now that Christ will be there with me every step of the way and He can certainly relate to the pain and betrayal I feel, yet He offers a path to greater healing and forgiveness that I could otherwise never fathom on my own.
