Silly Stupid

Looking back during the first years of my divorce, I realize I made some pretty dumb mistakes. One of the biggest was to start dating within two weeks after my divorce was final. There were plenty more, trust me. Most of my mistakes seemed totally reasonable at the time. How could that be? How could decisions I made then, seem so ridiculous or wrong now? Because I was acting out of anger, fear, or pain–sometimes out of all three at once.

The intense emotions of divorce leave us vulnerable to making poor decisions. Everyone is bound to make some. It comes with the territory. Try not to beat yourself up over it. The key is to stay close to Christ. He will keep you sensitive to the promptings of Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who wants to guard your heart and mind.  So, the next time you have a “great idea,” if you get a nagging feeling that it may not be the best move for you, don’t ignore it. It is most likely the Holy Spirit trying to keep you from doing something silly or stupid.

Are you so stupid? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now ending with the flesh? – Galatians 3:3
