“Do you have a personal relationship with your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ?” shouted the blind, Bible-slapping (literally) preacher who claimed his street corner each day beckoning passersby to salvation. That was the question that challenged me each day as I walked the three blocks in downtown Atlanta between college and work.
At the time, I had no clue what he meant, or even how to go about getting this “relationship.” Years later, as my divorce greatly deepened my faith, I learned that gaining this relationship was really quite straightforward: I simply needed receive the Eucharist.
The Eucharist is so much more than a “door prize” that you receive for going to Mass. It is the way to develop and sustain a deep, personal relationship with the Prince of Peace, the God of the Universe, Jesus Christ.
The more often you receive Christ in the Eucharist, the deeper your relationship with Him will become. He, and all His life-giving, healing graces, will “remain” with you long after the Mass. It is this relationship that is so fundamental to your healing and sustained peace and joy after divorce. Receive the Eucharist as often as you can and come to know a personal relationship with your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood remains in me and I in him. – John 6:56
