As a typical Type A personality, my natural tendency is to act quickly to address any problem that might arise. This was never more true than when I was going through my divorce. Unfortunately, acting too quickly often pushes God out of the situation as we can step all over His plans. Remember, God’s timing is always perfect. This excerpt from an old hymn reminds us that often the best response to problems or pain is to wait patiently for God, who can always be trusted to act in just the right way at just the right time.
Be still, my soul–the Lord is on thy side!
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain;
Leave to thy God to order and provide–
In every change he faithful will remain.
Be still my soul–thy best, thy heavenly friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.*
For I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare, not for woe! plans to give a future full of hope. – Jeremiah 29:11
