Infinity Googolplex

I was putting my son to bed one evening, as I often do, and I was laying next to him joining him in his evening prayers. When we were done, I reached over, kissed him, blessed him, and told him goodnight. He replied, “Goodnight, I love you.” I then replied, “I love you more!” He gave me a big, joyful smile and said, “I love you infinity googolplex!” He giggled and snuggled his head into his pillow, triumphant that he had out loved me. I chuckled and left his room feeling so grateful for the gift of that little boy and his infinite love.

Curious about what a “googolplex” was, I went to that indisputable source of knowledge (wink): Wikipedia. According to Wikipedia, a googolplex is a number written as a “one, followed by writing zeros until your hand gets tired.”* Really?! Multiply that times infinity (assuming that is even possible) and what you have is a number bigger than we can humanly represent.

While humans may not have a better way to describe something that enormous, I think it might start to help us understand just how much God loves us. While it can make my head hurt to try and completely comprehend the enormity of God’s love, just knowing it is many times greater than the love I have for my son helps me to understand just how large infinity googolplex really is. And that makes me feel very, very blessed, indeed!

Though the mountains fall away
and the hills be shaken,
My love shall never fall away from you
nor my covenant of peace be shaken,
says the Lord, who has mercy on you. – Isaiah 54:10
