I don’t think there has ever been a more public display of human suffering than the Passion of our Lord. His suffering was not limited to one particular place, witnessed by a few. His suffering was through the streets of Jerusalem with thousands witnessing the entire grueling ordeal. In the midst of that suffering, Simon of Cyrene comes to Jesus’s aid. He helps relieve some of Christ’s suffering by carrying His cross. Simon was a glimpse of hope in the midst of total despair.
Now Jesus offers you the same hope in the midst of your despair. He longs to return the favor of Simon by helping you carry your cross. Be aware of moments during your day when Jesus is reaching out to help you. It could be in the form of a phone call from a friend, a coworker offering to assist with a project, your mother stepping in to help with the kids, or simply a moment of peace. Jesus, Our Lord and Savior, knows you need help and is actively trying to step in. Will you let Him?
Because He himself was tested through what He suffered, He is able to help those who are being tested. – Hebrews 2:18
