I will never forget the morning after my marriage crumbled. It was as if I woke up into a nightmare. I could not believe what was happening to me, my children, and my marriage. It was surreal. I just wanted to close my eyes and hope that I was really still asleep and would wake up into a different reality. Sadly, it was not to be. I was stuck in the very painful reality of going through a divorce.
The pain and disbelief I was feeling must have been similar to how the Blessed Mother felt the morning of Holy Saturday. She, too, must have felt as if she had woken up into a nightmare. She must have been dazed and confused at the turn of events from the previous day. She also had to deal with the extremely painful reality of loss. The Blessed Mother is one of us. She can totally relate. As our spiritual mother, her heart aches when we are in pain. Her abundance of compassion and mercy predisposes her to want to help. Reach out to her in prayer. Ask her to pray for you and to bring all your needs to her Son. She is your greatest champion, especially in your most difficult and desperate times. Call on her!
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen. – Memorare
